Tropical Fish
Tropical fish are fish native to tropical climates and can only survive in tropical climates. Putting a tropical fish in water colder than 68 degrees could cause large amounts of stress or be fatal to some fish. Most tropical fish are very vibrantly colored.

Non-tropical or "coldwater" Fish
Non-tropical, also known by some as "coldwater" fish, are fish native to temperate climates and most can survive in sub-tropical temperatures without getting stressed out. Some species, such as Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, and Largemouth Bass, are actually native to North America.
